Launch of the Prognoz-6 Space Station

The Soviet Union successfully launched the automatic space station Prognoz-6 on September 22, 1977. This satellite is part of a series dedicated to studying solar activity and its effects on Earth. Equipped with scientific instruments from the USSR, Czechoslovakia, and France, Prognoz-6 focuses on solar radiation, magnetic fields, and particle flows in space. In addition to its scientific mission, Prognoz-6 recorded an unusual phenomenon observed in Karelia. Witnesses reported a bright, medusa-like light followed by a glowing semicircle on the horizon. This mysterious occurrence remains unexplained, highlighting the unpredictable nature of natural phenomena.
