In 1990, a Soviet newspaper titled "UFO and Anomalous Phenomena" tried to enter the market with the complicated approval of the state. Editor Sergey Rybakov assured that the newspaper would include testimonies from Soviet cosmonauts about objects in space, as well as stories about the Bermuda Triangle. Despite the doubts of official editors, Rybakov believed the newspaper would succeed thanks to its low price and exclusive content. However, the newspaper faced obstacles such as the lack of official distribution and possible military intervention, which could prohibit the publication of sensitive information.
The newspaper aimed to be a serious project with verified information, including interviews with witnesses and a network of journalists visiting areas with sightings. Rybakov, although he had never seen a UFO, had an aeronautical background and was determined to launch the project with his own money. His goal was to use the profits to create a research center on UFOs. Despite the difficulties, Rybakov remained optimistic and ambitious, with plans to internationalize the newspaper if everything went well.
