Summary

At 2:40 a.m. on 1 June 1952, the second officer of a ship anchored at Port-Gentil, Gabon, noticed a luminous object rising from inland, stopping, turning right, and resuming its course. The maneuver was repeated twice; the second turn occurred directly above the ship. Called to the deck, the captain observed through binoculars for three minutes a very bright circular light moving rapidly in a straight line. There were no other witnesses. Meteorite and missile hypotheses could not be confirmed. Classified D1 — unidentified strange phenomenon.
