Summary

In November 1953, several witnesses in Vélizy-Villacoublay (France) observed a white luminous sphere in the sky. The phenomenon was described as stationary and located in the northeast, an area with few clouds. An air traffic controller recorded his testimony in the tower logbook on the same day. Two days later, on November 20, he confirmed that two other military personnel had also seen it. A sky map showed that at that time, Jupiter was in the same direction with a very high magnitude (-2.22) and an elevation of 3.6°. The GEIPAN concluded that it was a simple astronomical misidentification with the planet Jupiter.
