🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In October 1954, an officer and another person observed a bright object in the sky over Mailly-le-Camp. The object appeared shortly after sunset, at about 45 degrees altitude, and remained stationary for a few seconds before disappearing suddenly. It was described as a metallic segment tilted at an angle, with a size comparable to a fraction of the Moon's diameter. Although the witness thought it might be an aircraft illuminated by the sun, the GEIPAN classified it as a likely observation of an aircraft. This type of sighting is common today due to heavy air traffic.
