On January 9, 1976, at 7:50 AM, a driver and his wife in Saint-Pierre, Reunion, observed a bright object in the sky. The object, described as a balloon with a truncated top, moved slowly and horizontally, following the terrain's curves from the coast toward the mountains, before disappearing into the landscape. No other witnesses were reported. Although the description might suggest something unusual, investigators concluded it was likely a regular balloon seen at sunrise.
Classified as "B" by the GEIPAN, the case is not considered an unexplained phenomenon. However, the accuracy of the witnesses in describing the object's movement and appearance remains intriguing for researchers of unidentified aerial phenomena. The case, though brief, illustrates how the ordinary can be perceived as mysterious under certain lighting and perspective conditions.
