Stationary luminous sphere at dawn in Grimaud

Summary

On January 10, 1976, between 7:50 and 8:50 a.m., two people in the Var department observed a very bright spherical object hovering above the horizon. As dawn advanced, the object gradually became invisible. The gendarmerie was contacted quickly but found nothing in the sky that day or the next. There were no other witnesses. Based on the descriptions, it is believed the witnesses probably saw a sounding balloon.
