Summary

On July 13, 1976, at 5:45 AM, two witnesses finishing their night shift at a quarry observed a white sphere suddenly appearing in the sky. It remained stationary for about 4 to 5 seconds, gradually growing in size before disappearing without making any noise. According to the gendarmerie investigation, the observers were at the highest point in the region, with a wide and clear field of vision. The weather was sunny and cloudless. The phenomenon was located above the coast of Vaucouleurs, about 8 km away. Although a possible optical phenomenon, such as the reflection of the newly risen sun, was considered, the observation was not entirely ruled out.
