At 5:45 AM on July 13, 1976, two workers finishing their night shift at a quarry saw a white sphere suddenly appear in the sky. It remained stationary while gradually growing in size over 4 to 5 seconds before vanishing silently. The witnesses were at the highest point in the area with a wide, unobstructed view under a clear, sunny sky. The sphere was located above the Vaucouleurs hillside, about 8 kilometers away. Investigators considered the possibility of an optical phenomenon caused by sunlight reflection shortly after sunrise, but could not entirely rule out other explanations.
