Summary

In September 1976, a family in Saint-Vérand witnessed a luminous phenomenon near their home. One witness felt intense heat and saw a bright elliptical shape surrounded by a halo. The object lingered for several minutes, descended, and vanished abruptly. Shortly before, their television had suffered interference and a pet had become frightened. The gendarmerie found no traces the following day. A neighbor heard a thunder-like boom and experienced a power cut but saw nothing.

Originally classified as a C case, GEIPAN later reclassified it as B, attributing it most likely to atmospheric electricity such as ball lightning.
