In October 1976, several teenagers in Montigny-les-Metz spotted a mysterious object shaped like a cigar and colored red. The phenomenon lasted only a few seconds, but it left a strong impression. The object passed silently from southeast to northwest without making any noise. Although no adults were witnesses, the children insisted on the event, leading to its publication in local media. The area, near Metz Airport, has heavy air traffic, suggesting it could have been an unidentified aircraft.
The case was classified as "B" by GEIPAN, meaning conventional explanations are not ruled out. However, the precise description and the consistency among multiple young witnesses add interest to this case. Despite the proximity to the airport, no flights were recorded in the area at that time, keeping some mystery around the sighting.
