On the evening of November 4, 1976, several witnesses in the Bouches-du-Rhône area saw a triangular object moving slowly and silently along the Marseille–La Ciotat route. It appeared slightly larger than a commercial aircraft, with a red light at the front and a white light at the rear. However, authorities noted that between 21:30 and 22:00, a large aircraft followed exactly the same route. It was concluded that the witnesses most likely observed a conventional plane whose appearance caused confusion.
