Summary

On October 2, 1977, several motorists in different areas of the Sarthe department observed a luminous phenomenon they could not identify. The object was round and slightly flattened, glowing with an orange hue. Initially, the case was classified as unexplained by the SEPRA due to lack of information, but in 2013 an internet user proposed an explanation validated by the GEIPAN. This is a typical "follower ball" phenomenon, where a luminous point or disk appears to follow the observer, although it is actually a distant celestial object. The testimonies are consistent and come from two independent groups who reported their sightings to the gendarmerie.
