On the night of 8 October 1977, a man riding his moped home through Saint-Mars-d'Outillé (Sarthe) spotted an airborne object with a flat base and rounded top, encircled by yellow lights around a larger central red light. He claimed the object followed him for three kilometres to his house, hovered briefly above it, and then sped away.
The light arrangement and shape are reminiscent of a helicopter, though the witness insisted he heard no rotor noise. With no additional evidence, the helicopter hypothesis could be neither confirmed nor fully ruled out.
