🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In October 1977 two on-duty soldiers in Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône) watched an ovoid object drift slowly from north to south, rising and descending while leaving a luminous trail. The silent observation lasted five to seven minutes. A weather balloon was initially considered, but the object's behaviour did not match known patterns. GEIPAN assigned a C classification, acknowledging a likely conventional cause without being able to confirm it.
