Stationary light transforms and accelerates over Chenôve

Summary

At 07:15 on 10 November 1977, two people in Chenôve (Côte-d'Or) noticed a motionless luminous point in the sky. Twenty minutes later it began to move, revealing a smooth, greyish oblong shape trailing a rapidly dissipating wake. It accelerated sharply and vanished behind a hill at 07:40, all in complete silence.

Neither the air-base control tower nor the Dijon-Longvic weather station recorded anything notable, and visibility that morning was poor. An additional witness was found but added no new information. The main observer's detailed, sober account led investigators to suggest a weather balloon, though the object's silence and sudden acceleration leave some uncertainty.
