Object with spark burst over Les Andelys

Summary

At about 06:45 on 15 November 1977, a moped rider near Les Andelys (Eure) saw an elongated object speeding northwest. Moments later it burst into a shower of sparks that fell groundward, leaving a multicoloured ball that continued on before vanishing — all in silence. A second witness independently described a luminous phenomenon followed by a long multicoloured trail. Law enforcement found no ground traces or further testimonies. Investigators considered a natural atmospheric entry the most likely explanation.
