On December 31, 1977, after 7 p.m., several people in Beaumettes, Vaucluse, observed a bright orange phenomenon in the sky that caught their attention. A witness, having learned about his neighbors' accounts mentioned in the press, went to the gendarmerie to clarify that he had fired off a rocket composed of two flares and four Chinese rockets between 7 and 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the end of the year. However, another brief testimony mentioned that around 5 p.m., a motorist saw an immobile object in the sky, which soon disappeared from view. This second testimony provided no further details, and no additional reports about the phenomenon were recorded. Despite the explanation of fireworks, the nature of the phenomenon and the brevity of the testimonies generated some uncertainty.
