In March 1978, witnesses in Saint-Maixent-l'École (Deux-Sèvres) saw a red-orange oval object gliding silently at low altitude from northeast to southwest before disappearing beyond the horizon without a trace. Their descriptions were detailed and consistent in shape, colour and behaviour.

GEIPAN classified the case C, finding no satisfactory explanation. The coherence of the testimonies supports their credibility, but the lack of supplementary data prevents a definitive conclusion.
