Silent multicoloured object over Gonesse

Summary

On the evening of 5 May 1978, three people in Gonesse watched an object at about 50 metres altitude displaying lights of various colours between 22:45 and 23:15. It made no sound despite its considerable size. The gendarmerie investigation found that aircraft were silently holding for landing clearance at nearby Charles de Gaulle airport during the same time window, which is the most likely explanation for the sighting.
