Summary

On 5 May 1978, three people in New Caledonia watched a red light moving slowly southward over an island before abruptly shifting northwest. No sound was heard and the sighting lasted over four minutes. A week later, on 12 May, local gendarmes witnessed the same phenomenon for about one minute. Despite these converging testimonies, the lack of additional data prevents any deeper analysis.
