Orange oval object and electrical failures at Gujan-Mestras

Summary

Between 23:00 on 19 June and 00:45 on 20 June 1978, several witnesses in Gujan-Mestras heard a loud dull noise followed by the appearance of an oval orange luminous object. While it remained visible, street lighting in the area failed. The object climbed and disappeared. Separately, motorists on the RN113 also saw a luminous phenomenon moving slowly under a stormy sky. The GEPAN investigation could not conclusively link the two sets of testimonies. The sightings are thought to be possibly related to a meteorological phenomenon associated with the storm affecting the region.
