On September 8, 1978, around 7:15 PM, several witnesses in Corbeny heard a whistle followed by a loud noise from the sky. A farmer later found that the roof of his barn had been damaged and discovered pieces of whitish ice of various sizes. The sky was cloudy that day. The diameter and total weight of the ice could not be determined, as it had broken into several pieces upon impact. Some fragments were collected by witnesses, while others melted without leaving any trace. No similar events were reported in the region that day. Although rare, this type of phenomenon is known in meteorology.
