At 19:35 on September 27, 1978, a military witness in Sète (Hérault) reported two luminous points in the sky. He described a first cylindrical object with a bright conical section and a second crescent-shaped one that appeared and disappeared intermittently. The post commander also confirmed both objects. By 20:20 they vanished behind clouds. Balloons were considered, but the detailed descriptions of shape and behavior do not easily fit that hypothesis.
Confirmation by two separate observers strengthens the testimony. GEIPAN classified the case as B, leaving it without a definitive explanation.
