On January 26, 1979, a driver in Valenciennes spotted a luminous sphere about 150 meters ahead. The sphere, measuring 4 to 5 meters in diameter, was made up of several panels and had visible antennas of 1 to 2 meters. It emitted small blue and white flames and produced no sound. The sphere disappeared as it moved toward the horizon. No further information was gathered on this phenomenon, making it difficult to classify accurately.
