Bright white sphere and other sightings in the Ain region

Summary

Between December 1978 and February 1979 several reports of unidentified aerial objects accumulated in the Ain region. The most notable episode came on February 13, 1979, when a witness watched a very bright white ball with multiple interior lights moving at low altitude for two to three minutes; it could not be identified. An earlier sighting on December 4, 1978, described a trapezoidal craft with red lights and a helicopter-like sound. Although nearby airfields suggested conventional aircraft, air-traffic records showed no activity at the reported dates and times. The hypothesis could not be confirmed.
