On the night of March 11, 1979, several residents of Saint-Marcel (Ain) witnessed an unusual luminous phenomenon. A bright light in shades of blue-green-mauve illuminated the surroundings for about 60 seconds, followed by a brief power outage across the area. A driver described an oval-shaped object hovering 15-20 meters above the ground, which suddenly disappeared, leaving behind two reddish lights.
A fish farmer, awakened by strange noises and intense light, discovered the next day that hundreds of kilograms of fish had died in one of his ponds. Interestingly, a high-voltage power line ran near the area, and a few days later one of its cables broke, showing signs of electrical arcing. Although tests indicated a viral infection as the cause of the fish deaths, the possibility of an electrical phenomenon contributing to the event was not ruled out.
