On 14 May 1979, under clear, windless skies, several witnesses in Vienne (Isère) watched a silvery oval object drift slowly from north to south, oscillating as it gradually descended. One witness approached a hill where the object seemed to have dropped, only to see it climb swiftly and vanish. No sound was reported at any point. A weather balloon was suggested as a possible explanation but was never officially confirmed.
