On May 14, 1979, several witnesses in Vienne (France) observed a bright object in a clear, windless sky. The object was oval-shaped, silver-colored, and slowly moved from north to south, oscillating while gradually descending. One of the witnesses, seeing the object appear to fall behind a hill, went to investigate and saw it suddenly rise and disappear. Interestingly, no sound was reported by any of the witnesses. Although a weather balloon was suggested as a possible explanation, it was never officially confirmed.
