On May 26, 1979, at 2:30 AM local time, two witnesses aboard a ship in the Pacific Ocean observed for 2 to 3 minutes a group of four radar echoes that merged into one, with clear contours. The echo appeared on a V 22 radar and did not match known natural causes such as meteorological interference or multiple hull reflections. The incident occurred north of the Chimborazo volcano in Ecuador. Although the case was classified as "C" by the GEIPAN, suggesting a conventional explanation, the details of the radar echo do not easily fit known categories.
