In August 1979, a farmer in the Drôme region found a circle of burned grass over ten metres across. Curiously, the grass inside the circle was not only undamaged but greener than the surrounding field. Days later, pink mushrooms appeared both inside and outside the perimeter. Similar phenomena had already been observed in nearby meadows. Although there were no direct sightings, the circle's characteristics and the unusual mushroom growth drew interest. GEIPAN classified the case as "A", considering the available data sufficient for study.
