Summary

On November 14, 1979, around 5:42 PM, a French Air Force officer and his passenger were driving through the Vosges region when they saw two reddish-orange points of light stabilize about a hundred meters above the forest. The lights switched off one after the other without sound, but thirty seconds later a near-simultaneous double boom was heard, which the witness attributed to a sonic barrier break. A minute later, two lights appeared at the same altitude further north and went out in under five seconds. Several local residents also reported the phenomenon. The gendarmerie could not obtain further information and the case remains unexplained.
