In 1958, the CIA received questions about whether it had attempted to present reports on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in a way that made them appear authentic. It was noted that there was an effort to keep the collaboration between the Agency and an external source confidential. Emphasis was placed on not violating the security restrictions set by the source, and it was acknowledged that confusion could arise if information was disclosed. It was stressed that certain data should remain secret, while others were the source's property and could be revealed at their discretion.
Additionally, it was mentioned that in 1957 a request for UFO information was directed to the Contact Division by the Office of Scientific Intelligence. The responses were sent to the Communications Department. It was also noted that the ATIC (Air Technical Intelligence Center) communicated with an individual named Davidson to improve cooperation. Finally, it was indicated that relevant copies had been shared with the field personnel of the Contact Division.
