Summary

On January 3, 1980, a witness in Neully-en-Thelle (France) observed a red ball in the sky at 8:05 AM. While closing his shutters, he noticed the object, which disappeared behind clouds before reappearing moments later. It moved erratically and at high speed, following a trajectory from southeast to northwest. After alerting his neighbor, she failed to see the object. The witness took photographs, and the gendarmes examined the negative, which showed a brown spot. However, the negative has not been found in the archives to this day. No other testimonies of the phenomenon were collected. It is believed the witness may have observed the full moon, which was setting at the indicated time and being illuminated by the rising sun, giving it a reddish hue.
