On January 27, 1980, several witnesses in Fay-de-Bretagne observed an orange glowing ball near the horizon. The object appeared to flicker occasionally and was visible between 21:05 and 21:10 for about 10 to 15 minutes. A similar observation occurred the following day, raising some concern among witnesses. After checking the sky charts, investigators concluded that the witnesses likely mistook Venus for an unexplained phenomenon. Venus was located in the southwest with a brightness of -3.9, making it very visible until it disappeared behind the horizon around 21:10.
