On February 15, 1980, around 8:35 PM, a witness in Vosges reported a luminous sphere above a building, observed toward the southwest. Using binoculars, the witness noted two balls, one red and one white, which remained stationary in the sky. According to the account, the balls swapped positions before disappearing after tracing a wide "Z" shape. The observation lasted about 10 minutes under a completely clear sky. No other witnesses reported the phenomenon to the gendarmerie. Investigators suggest it could have been an astronomical observation of Venus, very low on the horizon, mistaken for an urban landscape feature.
