🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In March 1980, a couple in Corsica observed a luminous ball shaped like a plate, about 100-200 meters from their car. The object seemed to follow their vehicle, stopping and restarting at the same time. The witnesses reported no sounds or smells, and after the first object disappeared, a red conical light appeared. Upon arriving home, they filed a report, but no other witnesses or evidence were found. Investigators suggested it might have been Venus, highly visible at that time of year and low on the horizon, which would have appeared and disappeared along the ridge line.
The winding route between Favello and Corte, combined with the low sky position, could have created an optical illusion making the planet appear to move with the car. Despite the detailed account, the lack of external confirmation and the plausible astronomical explanation led the GEIPAN to classify the case as Type B, indicating an unexplained observation with a possible natural explanation.
