🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In March 1980, a motorist and his son in the Ardennes observed a luminous phenomenon that seemed to approach and grow in size, causing panic. The vehicle suddenly stalled, and after several attempts, it restarted. Authorities found no physical evidence of the event, and there were no other witnesses. Years later, the GEIPAN reviewed the case and concluded that it was likely a conventional aircraft with landing lights on, mistaken by the witnesses for an unidentified object. The lack of noise and limited visibility from inside the vehicle contributed to the confusion. Additionally, the presence of fog and the sighting of Mars at the end of the event added to the optical illusion. Although other explanations are not ruled out, the most plausible hypothesis points to a conventional aircraft.
