On March 23, 1980 at 22:20, several witnesses contacted the gendarmerie to report unusual luminous phenomena near the Mont Caume television tower. The bright objects appeared to move close to the ground, causing alarm. Gendarmes quickly arrived on site and, after investigation, discovered that the phenomena were actually new lighting signals installed at the base of the tower. Additionally, other flashes seen from that location turned out to be car headlights, village lights, and urban reflectors. The weather conditions, including fog and poor visibility, contributed to the confusion and the perception of unexplained phenomena. The investigation concluded that there were no anomalous elements, just a combination of lights and atmospheric effects.
