On the night of May 13, 1980, two gendarmes patrolling the A1 motorway near Roye spotted a luminous object in the sky. Intrigued, they continued driving to a rest area parking lot where they contacted their control center by radio, and another gendarme confirmed the object's presence. One of the witnesses attempted to photograph it, but the film developed was negative. As they drove north again, they noticed the object seemed to follow their vehicle. The observation lasted nearly an hour. Despite the consistency of the testimony and the witnesses' credibility, the GEPAN classified the case as a PAN A, attributing it to a possible misidentification of Venus on the horizon.
