Summary

On May 26, 1980, two hikers in Huningue (France) spotted an unusual object in the sky. One of them, a mechanical officer, described a metallic object with a round base and a silver-colored dome on top. The object, hovering about 200-300 meters above the ground, appeared to gently oscillate on its axis. Its lower part was darker and occasionally emitted a reddish glow. During the six-minute observation, no noise or condensation was detected. Eventually, the object disappeared into the clouds in a series of steps. A radar echo was recorded at the Bâle/Mulhouse airport, but it was lost among general and private air traffic and thus not exploitable. No other witnesses or additional information were collected in the French or German border area. The phenomenon remains unexplained.
