A witness in Pau, France, reported seeing flat, luminous objects in a cloudy sky on July 12, 2017, during a Tour de France celebration. While walking near Place Clémenceau, they noticed other people looking up and pointing in a direction. The witness observed several bright, flat shapes passing over the roof of the chamber of commerce before disappearing. Later, while moving to the boulevard des Pyrénées, they saw other luminous points moving in straight lines and changing direction, with no sound detected. The witness took photos of the phenomenon and of the surroundings to contextualize the observation.
Although the testimony is singular, the context suggests it could be decorative balloons released during the celebration. The GEIPAN considers that, given the crowd present and the lack of other reports, the phenomenon was likely caused by festive balloons. For this reason, the case was classified as B, indicating a likely conventional observation.
