In October 1980, several witnesses in Wattrelos observed a luminous object moving slowly and silently across the sky. According to descriptions, the object had a circular or rectangular shape and emitted lights that attracted attention. For more than fifteen minutes, witnesses followed its trajectory, which included back-and-forth movements. Eventually, the object disappeared toward the direction of Belgium.
During the investigation, it was discovered that on that very night, a Belgian plane was flying with special lighting on its wings and fuselage as part of an aerial advertising campaign. This explanation suggests that the observed phenomenon could have been a decorated plane, accounting for the unusual lights and movement. While not officially confirmed, this clue offers a possible reason for the mysterious sighting.
