Summary

On the early morning of September 14, 2014, several witnesses in the Val-de-Marne department observed a dozen yellow luminous points in the sky. These objects, moving slowly in a southwesterly direction, raised some concern, especially since they were reported to the Air Transport Gendarmerie. The Gendarmerie, already on high alert for low-flying drones, investigated the case with particular attention. After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the points were 35 Thai lanterns released to celebrate a PACS. This event had previously been authorized by the prefecture, allowing the GEIPAN to classify the case as fully identified in category A. Although initially puzzling, the explanation turned out to be entirely conventional.
