Summary

On November 11, 1980, around 6:30 PM, hundreds of people in southeastern France and Corsica observed a very bright luminous phenomenon crossing the sky. The gendarmerie recorded numerous testimonies, and sightings were also reported in Italy and Spain. Local media such as *Nice Matin* covered the event. After receiving a new testimony, the GEIPAN re-examined the case and concluded it was a fireball's atmospheric reentry. Testimonies varied in color, shape, and direction, but they all coincided in timing and described a division into three elements. This diversity is explained by the observers' different perspectives, but the simultaneity and shared features confirm the uniqueness of the phenomenon.

The atmospheric reentry of an object at high speed and altitude explained its visibility over great distances. Although initially considered a space debris possibility, the trajectory and speed suggested a natural meteorite. Astronomers from Nice and Genoa confirmed this hypothesis. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A," meaning explained by a natural phenomenon. This event illustrates how multiple observers can describe the same phenomenon differently, but the convergence of testimonies allows for identifying its origin.
