🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In March 1981, six witnesses in Metz (France) reported seeing an unidentified object flying over the city. The case, initially classified as "D" by the GEIPAN, was recently re-examined. The witnesses, all independent, described spherical shapes and something resembling a balloon. Although the police investigated the incident after a local newspaper article, precise data such as angular measurements, exact observation durations, or precise witness locations were not collected. This limited the investigators' ability to confirm or rule out the hypothesis of a festive balloon. Despite four of the six witnesses mentioning something similar to a balloon, contradictions and vague descriptions in the testimonies prevented a clear conclusion. The case was ultimately reclassified as "C", due to insufficient information to resolve the mystery.
