Summary

In December 1981, a family in Caudan (France) observed a luminous object in the sky for ten minutes. The testimony describes a round, orange-colored object moving at high speed with straight trajectories and abrupt direction changes. Despite the detailed description, the GEIPAN concluded it was likely the star Sirius. At that time, Sirius was low on the southeast horizon, and weather conditions—clear sky with some low clouds—could have caused an optical illusion. The description of flickering and unusual movements aligned with the phenomenon of micro-ocular movements, common when observing bright objects at night.

The hypothesis of Sirius was reinforced by the testimony, although precise elevation data was missing. Additionally, the presence of clouds might have briefly hidden the star, creating the illusion of movement. Despite these uncertainties, the probability that it was Sirius was over 50%. A second phenomenon was briefly observed, but with little data available, no clear explanation could be established. The single testimony, although detailed, did not allow for a definitive classification of this second event.
