Summary

In January 1982, several witnesses in Hayange (Moselle) observed an unusual luminous phenomenon. An object emitting red, white, and blue lights was seen moving slowly before disappearing on the horizon. The description provided by the witnesses was clear and detailed, prompting an investigation by the GEIPAN.

After a thorough review of the data, investigators concluded that between 6:00 and 7:00 PM, a civilian airliner passed through the area. This aircraft had navigation lights that matched exactly the colors and behavior described by the witnesses. Therefore, the phenomenon was classified as a resolved case, attributed to a conventional aircraft with visible lights at a distance.
