🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In May 1982, a driver and her passenger noticed a bright object in the sky that intrigued them. They described it as a luminous shape in orange, resembling a half-moon. The object remained stationary above the town of Suippes before starting to move in horizontal jumps, following the witnesses until the village of Somme-Suippes. No sound was heard during the observation, and eventually the object disappeared from view as they arrived at their destination, hidden by buildings or the landscape. Although the gendarmerie collected no further information, GEIPAN investigators concluded that the observed phenomenon was actually the Moon at sunrise. The witnesses, tired and possibly anxious, did not immediately recognize the celestial body, leading to a misinterpretation of the event.
