🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On November 17, 1983, three witnesses in Hombourg Haut (Moselle, France) observed at 6:30 PM a luminous ball with a tail moving very quickly from northeast to southwest. The phenomenon lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to leave a clear impression on the witnesses. The description of the luminous ball with a clear trajectory suggests an object entering the atmosphere. Although no additional details, such as sounds or secondary effects, were recorded, the description fits the typical entry of a meteorite or an unidentified space object.
This case was classified by the GEIPAN as category B, indicating that it was not ruled out as a known natural phenomenon, but it could not be confirmed as an unidentified object. The brevity of the sighting and the lack of additional data made a more precise evaluation difficult. However, the concise description and observed trajectory are compatible with an atmospheric entry, making this case interesting for the study of unidentified aerial objects.
