🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In January 1984, two witnesses traveling on the A9 near Nîmes observed an unidentified aerial phenomenon (PAN) that followed them for about 20 kilometers. The case was initially classified as D, but the GEIPAN reviewed it and updated its assessment. The main PAN, seen by both witnesses, did not match any known phenomenon, but the lack of reliable data prevented a clear confirmation or explanation. Meanwhile, a second PAN was seen only by one of the witnesses, who mistook it for the star Aldebaran. This phenomenon was explained as an optical illusion caused by the observer's movement, leading the GEIPAN to classify this second PAN as an A case.
