🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In 1985, in the Vaucluse region of France, two aerial phenomena were reported and initially classified as unexplained. However, after a more detailed review, the GEIPAN (French group for the study of unexplained aerial phenomena) concluded that both had natural explanations. The first observation, on January 14 by two witnesses, described a luminous sphere that changed color and appeared to follow their vehicle. After reviewing the data, it was determined to be an optical illusion caused by the setting sun seen through clouds. The second observation, on January 2, was a stationary light identified as the planet Mars. Both cases were reclassified as "misperceptions" with celestial bodies, highlighting the importance of re-examining old records with new tools.
